The Team
The 6 Moods is very much the result of a collective effort.
Fred Pelard, Joanna Louise, Michael Gray, Tom Paton, Sue Llewellyn and many others have all played a big part in bringing the 6 Moods to fruition.
The 6 Moods approach started life as a brainwave in early 2009: what if Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud were both right!?! …
What if people’s individual traits and quirks could be construed indeed as the sum of both some broad archetypal traits and of their unique early childhood experiences? And why not throw into the mix the personal choices they’ve also made as adults?
Could there be a unified way to bring together all the elements of nature, nurture and culture in describing human diversity, whilst staying true to everyone’s individuality? And could this in turn help anyone improve their interactions will all others, in any context: at work, at play and in love?
Many great minds, hearts and hands have since been involved in transforming the initial brainwave into the full-blown model and method that is the 6 Moods approach today. Here’s a short roll-call:
Fred Pelard provided the initial brainwave, and the overall architecture for the 6 Moods approach. He has developed the main notions (the Moods, the BED Drivers, the Moods Profile, the Building Devices, etc), tested them in workshops with several hundred participants in the last 3 years, and written the book as a comprehensive repository for it all.
Joanna Louise offered the initial sounding board for Fred’s early brainwave, and has contributed some wonderfully well-crafted sections in the book, full of evocative details (Meet the Moods, Recognize the Drivers, Bench your Home mood, etc) as well as most of the copy for this website.
Michael Gray has found a wonder way to illustrate the central notions in the 6 Moods approach. You’ll find his delightful output sprinkled all over the book, the videos, the website, etc.
Laura McCracken uses the 6 Moods approach in her professional leadership development sessions, and has contributed many examples and exercises to help participants learn & grow.
Tom Paton creates punchy, snappy watchable videos to emphasize some of the answers to your questions, and Sue Llewellyn can rave about the 6 Moods’ ability to illuminate social media issues.
Finally, many others have offered a word of encouragement, a well thought-through piece of constructive criticism, or a kind introduction here and there.
Between us, we’ve studied, taught or tried pretty well every other theory or technique for personal development there is; and willingly acknowledge all these influences.
Hopefully, you’ll concur that The 6 Moods of Success is a unique contribution, rich as it is of simple and powerful techniques to bring you greater success; however you choose to define success.

Fred is a strategy trainer & consultant, specialising in helping teams and organisations solve complex problems.
A French rocket-scientist by training, he has been lecturing on strategic thinking to the CEOs and strategy teams of major corporations and consulting firms around the world for the best part of 15 years.
His Home Mood is T+ (Convince), which makes him highly optimistic, energetic and head-driven most of the time. Things have to make sense in theory, stack-up analytically and offer the potential of big, exciting change for him to get involved.
Fred set up Instigate Group in 2000 with the dual focus of helping teams formulate better strategies and work better together, and has since worked with some of the leading organisations in media, financial services, defence, FMCG, retail, not-for-profit and consulting.
He uses the 6 Moods, along with other approaches, to lead boards and teams onto greater success. He first learned early on how to lead teams as President of the largest pan-European student organisation (AEGEE, with 10,000 members). Under his Presidency, he helped bring about the Erasmus programme (allowing student qualifications to be recognisable and transferable between European universities).
He subsequently spent 10 years working as a management consultant (with Deloitte) and as a strategy consultant (with a medium-sized Bain & McKinsey spin-off) either side of his MBA at INSEAD.
Fred’s understanding of complex team dynamics and leadership, and his natural affinity for systems thinking is at the core of the 6 Moods model.

She draws from a diverse wealth of experience spanning all things media and entertainment, a broad network of valuable contacts and a wide range of communication and life skills worth sharing.
As a former PR turned BBC journalist and reporter, Sue possesses a unique business acumen for the communications industry that has been cultivated and honed on the front lines of top-tier media outlets over the past 25 years.
Having produced live broadcast segments ranging from The Oscars to Wimbledon, to Ascot and Buckingham Palace for BBC Breakfast and RAF Brize Norton for Children in Need, Sue has not only experienced first-hand the ‘day to day’ (or daily grind?) of the media business but has also travelled across the globe for her craft and mingled with celebrities and media moguls alike.
This has enabled Sue to develop an ever-expanding network of valuable contacts over the years consisting of colleagues, industry heavy-weights, celebrities, experts and friends from all walks of life.
In addition to meeting a huge range of British and Hollywood talent, she has also personally interviewed some of the world’s most recognizable stars – including Johnny Depp, Will Smith and John Travolta, to name a few.
Before launching her career in television, Sue established her own PR, marketing and sponsorship consultancy where she served an impressive range of charities and ‘Green’ organizations throughout the late eighties and early nineties. Long before ‘Green’ became the ‘new black’ and a fashionable cause, Sue combined her specialized communication skills with her passion for environmental issues to help organisations such as the Born Free Foundation, The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and the British Environment and Media Awards (BEMAs) with their fund raising and media relations.
With a sense of adventure and an unfettered passion for life and other people, Sue’s ability to feel immediately at home almost anywhere and with anyone, can be accredited to her childhood, which was spent in far-flung corners of the world including Argentina, Holland, Iran and America.
In her spare time, Sue loves walking, yoga, meditation, cooking for friends, entertaining and reading voraciously. Even with a broad range of career experience spanning broadcast journalism, PR, advertising, copywriting and even A&R in the music industry, being the mother of three ‘grown up’ children is without a doubt the best and most rewarding job Sue has ever had
